Virginia Pendergrass
ARTIST STATEMENT: I am an admirer of California colorists. I strive for a ‘contemporary realism’ – clearly identifiable subject matter rendered with loose brushwork and exuberant color. My goal is to use these principles of suggestion and color to depict beautiful scenes as they catch my eye and imagination- landscapes, still life or figure.
Pendergrass is inspired by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and paints plein air in the area near her home in Brevard, using oils.
A student of Scott Christensen, Pendergrass has also studied at the Crealde School of Art in Winter Park, Florida, Old Lyme Academy of Art in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida. She is a member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America and Plein Air Florida, and has exhibited in juried exhibitions and won awards throughout the Southeast and Southwest.
