Patricia Cole-Ferullo elicits the elements of nature through expressionistic works in experimental media. The artist exposes the mystical relationships in the natural environment, conjuring interactions of earth, air, fire and water, through experiments in color, texture, form, and line. Cole-Ferullo explains, “I think it is important to recognize that we are all connected, that everything we say and do will have an effect; everything we think will result in some kind of action, even when we are not aware. My aim is to evoke a sense of the mysterious connection between all things, both seen and, especially, unseen.”
Cole-Ferullo works primarily in water media, but also uses pastel, ink, earth, twigs, found objects, and pencil. The work displays an influence of abstract expressionist artists Mark Rothko and Helen Frankenthaler. At times, Cole-Ferullo incorporates text into her abstract works, communicating through a new visual language, recalling the work of Cy Twombly. Representational forms also emerge, as human figures and landscapes. Cole-Ferullo’s work continues to evolve.
Patricia Cole-Ferullo is a native of Fairmont, West Virginia. Since her graduation from Florida State University with a BA in Fine Art, Cole-Ferullo has exhibited in numerous juried shows, consistently winning national awards. In addition to memberships in artist guilds and societies, she is a signature member of the Society of Layerists in Multimedia and the International Society of Experimental Artists. She lives and works in Pisciotta, Italy.
