Timothy Maddox
From an early age Timothy Maddox had to keep his fingers moving. He always needed to have something in his hands. He now focuses this energy on his love for creating three dimensional objects. “Making objects keeps me fulfilled and busy,” Maddox says. “The materials excite me and allow for a lifetime of discovery.”
Maddox constructs steel-framed wood furniture that is part of the Silver Fox Gallery collection. He studied at the Penland School of Craft and graduates this spring from the Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a degree in Sculpture and Functional Art. After graduation, Maddox will open a co-operative studio where dedicated artists and designers can share resources, space, knowledge, and ideas.
Maddox was chosen as a Niche Magazine Student Awards Finalist at the 2007 Philadelphia Buyers’ Market of American Craft. He is the 2007 recipient of the Windgate Fellowship. In 2006, his work was included in an exhibition titled “Fine Contemporary Craft” at ArtSpace in Raleigh, North Carolina. In June of this year, a piece commissioned by the North Carolina Museum of Art will be exhibited at that museum in Raleigh.
