LeAnne Ash (Silver Fox Gallery stocks Ash's dinnerware items in multiple colors.)
LeAnne Ash is a resident artist at the EnergyXchange, an art studio and horticulture center in Western North Carolina that uses landfill gas and promotes emerging artists. Ash makes wheel-thrown, functional pottery that “finds strength in its simplicity.” Her work is set apart by quiet details such as undulating rims, layered surfaces, and soft directional changes.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Ash received a BFA in Ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Following her undergraduate work, she studied with and served as intern for sculptor Deirdre Daw in her Seattle studio. Ash studied and assisted at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina, and served as resident artist at the Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts in Asheville, North Carolina from 2003-2005.
Of her work, Ash says, “I have always had an interest in food, cooking, and culture, so it feels natural for me to make pottery. Pottery elicits a strong human emotion triggered by beauty, memory and touch, which can be very powerful.”
