Holden McCurry
Ceramic artist Holden McCurry creates distinctive functional and sculptural art inspired by organic and architectural forms. Combining terra-stone and white clays with custom tinted glazes, McCurry achieves richly colored and textural surfaces on his hand-built work, fired to either low-fire or high-fire temperatures.
McCurry studied art at Birmingham Southern College, architecture at Auburn University, and ceramics at The Penland School of Crafts. His training has given him the inspiration to create work that he finds both symbolic and delightful.
Best known for his clay prayer towers and shrines, McCurry places inside each piece a fold of paper on which recipients can write their own prayer or message, giving each tower a special purpose.
McCurry’s new work, journey boats, reflects on the journey each individual makes through life.
